Position Overview

A well-established Texas law firm is seeking an experienced Electric and Environmental Regulatory Paralegal for its Austin office. This position provides legal and administrative support to attorneys handling electric and environmental regulatory permitting, compliance, and litigation matters.
The paralegal will assist with regulatory applications, agency filings, discovery, document production, hearing preparation, post-hearing activities, and general case management. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven legal environment.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Applications and Filings

  • Assist with preparing and compiling complex regulatory applications.
  • Organize and label exhibits and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and submit electronic and supplemental filings.
  • Track filing deadlines and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain organized records of agency submissions and correspondence.

Discovery and Case Development

  • Draft interrogatories, requests for production, requests for admission, disclosures, and other discovery documents.
  • Assist attorneys and clients with preparing discovery responses.
  • Coordinate document collection, review, and production.
  • Review documents for relevance and privilege.
  • Prepare and maintain privilege logs.

Depositions and Hearing Preparation

  • Coordinate depositions, including notices, subpoenas, witnesses, and court reporters.
  • Prepare deposition materials and communicate with witnesses.
  • Assist with preparing testimony, motions, and pre-hearing briefs.
  • Organize hearing notebooks, exhibits, and supporting materials.
  • Prepare exhibit and witness lists.
  • Use approved legal technology and AI tools to support case preparation and document management.

Hearing and Post-Hearing Support

  • Assist attorneys during hearings by managing exhibits and taking notes.
  • Coordinate witness schedules, attendance, and related logistics.
  • Maintain and update exhibit lists throughout proceedings.
  • Work with attorneys and clients to prepare for hearing activities.
  • Maintain post-hearing calendars and deadlines.
  • Assist with preparing and filing post-hearing briefs and related documents.

General Legal Support

  • Conduct legal and regulatory research using Westlaw, Lexis, and other approved resources.
  • Draft routine legal documents and correspondence.
  • Maintain case files, document repositories, and regulatory records.
  • Support environmental due diligence reviews and regulatory research.
  • Perform additional legal-support duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal certification required; substantial equivalent experience may be considered.
  • At least five years of relevant paralegal experience in a law firm environment.
  • Environmental, electric utility, energy, administrative, or regulatory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes, and regulatory procedures.
  • Experience with electronic filing systems and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Proficiency with Westlaw, Lexis, or comparable legal research platforms.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet competing deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

Working Conditions

This position operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment. Occasional overtime and travel may be required based on regulatory proceedings and case needs.
